I don't know this guy but there is always a tall gentleman working the corner at my place of employment all by himself. Nothing strange about that, except that he's there between 5AM and 7AM and he distributes at least 30 rags daily. I don't know how he does it, but this guy has a natural ability to put rags in peoples hands when they least expect it... I swear this guy must be a "subpoena server" at his secular job...

by jemba ini just mentioned in another post about a bro that wouldnt shake hands with anyone because it was of pagan origin.. another bro collected fossils that he would show in the ministry for some stupid creationist reason, everywhere he went he talked about jehovah, jehovah, jehovah, no one wanted to work with him, in the workplace or on field service.
his own wife would hide somewhere when he started his incidental witnessing at shops or on the street.. dont get me started about some of the fruit loop parents and what they put their kids through in the name of jehovah.. what freaks stand out in your memory as fanatical jws?.

by raymond frantz inthere is an article today in daily mail one of the largest uk newspapers about the plymouth brethren that should worry every thinking jehovah's witness.. the charities commision in britain is threatening the charitable status of a small offshoot of the aglican church the plymouth brethren .the reason ?
they don't perform enough charitable work for their local community .
at a time where the tax avoidance of large businesses such as google ,ebay,amazon and starbucks is under serious question in britain ,the charities commision's investigation into this little church's charitable status comes as no surprise .the 2006 charities act forced charities, often at high cost, to 'demonstrate' value to society .so far being a christian church automatically exempt you off taxes ,this is not the case anymore .

But the Watchtower has been very successful in explaining away their charitable shortcomings by simply saying: "We provide the most important charitable service of all the earth. We offer Bible studies FREE of charge".
So far, this has worked for over 130 years in most countries, so I doubt that this situation with the Plymouth Bethren will have any impact on the WT...

In 1969 the Society published TheKingdomInterlinearTranslationoftheGreekScriptures, which presented under the Greek text by Westcott and Hort a literal word-for-word translation into English.
In 1971 a revised edition of the NewWorldTranslation was produced in larger print with footnotes and an appendix.
In 1984 there was released the NewWorldTranslation Reference Bible, containing extensive marginal and footnote references, a word index and appendix material.
And the Society has just recently produced the regular-size edition of the NewWorldTranslationoftheHolyScriptures with marginal references.
The Society is continuing its interest in Bible publication and distribution. Already work is being done to produce a small pocket Bible, which has been the desire of many of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In addition, for all those with limited eyesight work is proceeding on a truly large-print edition of the NewWorldTranslation in four volumes.

Watchtower Real Estate Fire Sale = Comfort for the Jews?

seriously, i couldnt identify one single watchtower building in brooklyn that went to a non-jewish real estate firm.. is the rothschild family finally cashing in on the initial investment they made in the watchtower at the end of the 19th century?
i have to wonder if they foresee a collapse or mass exodus in the near future and want to cash in their chips before these lose any more value..

NO Stonecutters… I know of at least 2 Jewish Synagogues in New York City that were sold to the Watchtower in the 70’s… For example, go to Street Level on Google Maps and check out this Jewish Synagogue which is currently a Kingdom Hall / Assembly Hall (you’ll notice the inconspicuous sign just to the right of the Synagogue). I can't confirm this, but I was told that these synagogues were sold to the WT for pennies on the dollar.

when it becomes one of the fundament teachings of the organisational part of a religion, the rank-and-file witnesses are expected to be convinced about these kind of doctrines.

What David Splane really wanted to say here (but obviously couldn’t) is the following:
“We really love this idea because it kills two birds with one stone. Primarily, it elevates the prominence of the governing body since we no longer represent the anointed nor do we need to act as its lowly spokesperson. Secondly, this will deter you common folk from bitching about being second-class brethren because we’ve just lowered the status of the non-GB anointed all the way down to your miniscule level.”
(But instead, he has chosen his words cautiously and has cleverly convinced nearly all in attendance that this new arrangement actually “dignifies” the non-anointed. This will go over everyone’s head when it goes into print)

this is hidden from witnesses today and only a sanitized "trimmed for easy consumption" version is taught to avoid "confusing" the faithful.
for thirty years the questions ate a larger and larger hole in my gut as a jw as it became more evident that the full truth was not being revealed to us for ulterior motives.

Einstein... not sure if you're still around but I'm sure you've come across this precious gem found in the 1925 Watchtower book Comfort for the Jews (pages 58-60)
A literal Jewish “time” means a year-twelve months of thirty days each, or 360 days. If the time is symbolic, a day stands for a year. Seven symbolic “times” therefore would mean 2520 years. The divine rule for counting symbolic time on the basis of a day for a year is announced in Numbers 14: 33,34 and in Ezekiel 4: 6. It follows then that the seven times of punishment that must come upon Israel, which would mark the period of her warfare, must be either seven literal times or seven symbolic times. These seven times could not be literal for the reason that Israel was in Babylon not seven years but seventy years, and that her punishment continued many centuries thereafter. It follows then that these seven times, without a question of a doubt, are symbolic. One symbolic time being 360 years, seven symbolic times would aggregate 2520 years. This period of 2520 years began in the year 606 B. C. with the overthrow of Zedekiah, and necessarily ended with the year 1914 A. D. Reckoning by Jewish time, and having in mind the atonement day, at the end of which the jubilee trumpet was sounded, this period of 2520 years must end about August 1st, 1914. If this calculation is correct, and it must be, then something should have occurred in 1914 to mark the end of God’s favor to the Gentiles and something to indicate shortly thereafter that God’s favor was returning to the Jew. We find it even so.
On the first day of August, 1914, the Gentile nations of earth became angry; and the great World War began, even as the Lord had foretold. Some leading Jews, particularly Dr. Chaim Weizmann, were pressing the Jewish interests in Palestine at that time . Turkey was in control of Palestine. Turkey must first be expelled before the Jews could accomplish much in Palestine. In the latter part of 1917 the allied armies, under the leadership of General Allenby of the British army, drove back the Turk and forthwith entered and took possession of the holy city. Great Britain is, and for a long time has been, the greatest world-power of the Gentile nations. A short time before this the British government, acting through Mr. Balfour, signified its purpose of aiding the Jews in reestablishing themselves in Palestine.
The Balfour Declaration, which has now become an historical document, was issued on the 2nd day of November, 1917, or about a month before the allied armies drove out the Turk. While this was not the first effort of the Jews to get possession of the land of Palestine and to rebuild it, this was the first official recognition by the Gentile powers of the right of the Jew to rebuild his homeland. And be it noted that this first recognition was given by the greatest world-power amongst the Gentiles. Exactly on time then, in 1914 and at the end of the seven times, the war began; and the good that resulted to the Jew from this war was the recognition of the world-powers of the right of the Jews to return to Palestine and rebuild their country .
